As your child's school counselor, I would like to take this opportunity to share some information that might help make the transition from a relaxed summer to the fast pace of the school year go a little smoother. It is no secret that establishing a daily routine is vital in helping a child feel secure and able to perform to the best of their ability. Read some suggestions that may help your child make an easy transition from summer to school.  Making an Easy Transition
 
What does a school counselor do?
 Mrs. Gibson, and most other school counselors

  • serve as a bridge between home, school, and the community.

  • talk with students in classrooms, small groups, and individually.

  • aid teachers and parents in helping children.

  • help in identifying the needs of children.

  • provide information on parenting skills.

  • maintain confidences.
School counselors have classroom, group, and individual counseling in which they help students to:
  • recognize and understand their feelings and the feelings of others.
  • accept themselves and others.
  • recognize, understand, and work through learning difficulties.
  • talk about their educational and personal/social concerns.
  • relate to others.
  • adjust to family changes such as moving, a new sibling, divorce, etc.
