Carlos Trevino intercepts Buna to score defensive touchdown

The East Chambers Buccaneers hosted the Buna Cougars during homecoming festivities on Friday, October 26, 2007. Billed as the highlight game of the night between two undefeateds, it lived up to its billing.

The day started with sibling introductions and pep rally atmosphere at the elementary and ended with a narrow victory and a homecoming king and queen.

What many anticipated being a battle for the potential district title turned out to be just that. East Chambers lead the cougars throughout the entire game, but a 2 touchdown lead in the fourth quarter would dwindle down to a quarterback sack by Justin Devillier to advert a potentially game-winning, 2-point conversion for Buna. Final score:  EC 34 Buna 33.

Coach Valastro -"What an exciting game; two undefeated teams getting after it. Hats off to Buna; they played a great game. Congrats to the Bucs, for finding a way to pull it out. I was very pleased with the play of the offensive line. Carlos Trevino, Arick Hartman, Scott Penny, Seth Hunt, Paul Trammell, Dylan Kramer, Colton Dryden, Vance McDonald and Daniel Renner created some nice holes for our player of the week, Tramain Thomas. Tramain's performance on offense was incredible. He had 188 yards and 4 tds on 23 carries. He also had 5 completions."

Coach Cauthern -"Defensive Player of the Week is Tramain Thomas.  He had 16 solo tackles, 2 assists, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 interceptions.

It was a great performance by Tramain.  He is always at or near the top of the leading tacklers, but his performance against Buna was over the top.  He did a great job of leading us in every aspect.  He made sure we were lined up correctly and made all the adjustments in the secondary.

Other players that had a good game were Paul Trammell with 11 tackles, 5 assists, and 1 tackle for a loss, Brian Vigers with 3 solo tackles, 3 assists, 1 tackle for a loss, and 1 caused fumble, Carlos Trevino had an interception returned for a touchdown.

We did not play to our capability, and we know it.  I truly expect all of our defensive players to play better this coming week and the remainder of the season.  They know that we did not play as a team, and it is something that bothers them.  When they are getting upset about performances like the one against Buna, you know you are headed in the right direction."
