The East Chambers Buccaneers
traveled to Shepherd to take on the
Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs in the
first round of the playoffs on
Friday, November 16, 2007. The
buccaneers and bulldogs were two
evenly matched teams that would
battle back and forth all night.
The defensive units of both teams
would hold strong and keep the first
quarter offensive efforts scoreless.
Second quarter would see more of the
same until there was 7 minutes left
to the half when EC would score off
a 22-yard run by Tramain Thomas.
The PAT would fail bouncing off the
upright. Just 2 minutes later,
CC would put up their first score,
but the PAT would be good making the
score EC 6 CC 7 going into halftime.
During third quarter play,
Corrigan-Camden would score off of a
21-yard run and their PAT was good
to take a 14-6 lead. East Chambers
would answer back with an offensive
drive that would bring them all the
way down to the goal line to score,
but they were denied by a fumble.
What looked like a potential safety
if EC could tackle Corrigan-Camden
in the endzone ended up with a
99-yard drive for the bulldogs to
score making it EC 6 CC 20. The Bucs
would answer back during the fourth
quarter off a 13-yard run by
Thomas, but the 2-point
conversion would be no good. Score
EC 12, CC 20. The bulldogs would
score next extending their lead to
28 to 12, but the buccaneers were
determined. With approximately 3
minutes left in the game, EC would
take possession and drive to score
off of a 1-yard run by Thomas.
A 2-point conversion pass to
Hallmark would be good making
the score EC 20 CC 28. The Bucs
would have to opt for an onside kick
which they would get allowing them
to drive for a much needed touchdown
to bring the score to EC 26 CC 28.
With just 33 seconds left in the
game, EC fans were on the edge of
their seats witnessing the comeback
of the season that wasn't to be.
Thomas' 2-point conversion
attempt to tie the game and send it
into overtime was just shy of the
goal line. Final score EC 26 CC 28.
Coach
Valastro - "I would like to
thank everyone for supporting the
Bucs this season. Although our exit
from the playoffs was much sooner
than I would have liked, I can't
express my feelings for this bunch
of young men. They gave us all they
had in practice and throughout the
season, and even until the last
minute of the CC game. They are
truly a special group; they will all
be missed.
Offensive player of the week was
awarded to Tramain Thomas. What a
performance Friday night. One of the
best I have ever seen in my career.
Tramain rushed for over 200 yards
and passed for another one hundred.
It has been an honor to coach
Tramain and all the seniors."
Coach Cauthern - "I thought
the kids never quit and that is a
credit to their heart and
determination. The kids left
everything they had on the field and
that is all you can ask. We needed
to make a couple more stops at
critical times, but for the most
part we played good defense.
Working with these young men during
this season has been a real joy for
me personally. It is fun to watch
kids mature during the course of a
season. I look forward to the
coming years. Coach Valastro has a
tremendous program going on here,
and we are going to be successful
year in and year out. Thanks to
everybody for their support." |
