The Bucs traveled to Deweyville to
open district play on Friday,
October 5, 2007, against the
Pirates. First half play would
witness an offensive struggle for
the Bucs riddled with mistakes,
turnovers, and penalties. The first
points of the game would come during
the second quarter on an East
Chambers run by Tramain Thomas
after completing a long pass to
Kendall Barrow which set up the
touchdown at the 1-yard line.
Carlos Trevino would add the
extra point with the PAT. Defense
would hold strong, denying
Deweyville on multiple drives.
During the second half, the Bucs
would add two scores off of a
10-yard run by Donte Raymond
and a 1-yard run by Trey Lambert.
Trevino's PATs would add two, making
the final score EC 21, Deweyville 0. The Bucs handed the Pirates
their first loss on their new home field.
Coach Valastro - "We
were definitely tested Friday night.
Credit Deweyville for their tough,
physical play. We made too many
mistakes on the offensive side of
the ball. Turnovers and missed
blocking assignments plagued us all
night. On the positive side of
things, all the mistakes we made are
correctable. Trey Lambert and
Jacoby Carrington did a nice
job with the offense. Tramain
Thomas had 123 yards rushing and
one touchdown. Offensive player of
the week was awarded to center,
Carlos Trevino. Carlos did a
nice job blocking on the offensive
line and also kicked three extra
points. Our defense did a super job
all night.
Coach Cauthern - "Overall
we were very pleased with the
defensive effort. The kids did a
great job of swarming to the
football. We preached all week
about being more physical, and I
think it showed. The kids are
starting to understand the overall
concept of the defense and how
important it is to take care of
your responsibility. Hopefully we
can continue to play well and
build on this for the rest of
district play.
Defensive Player of the Game -
Tramain Thomas - He did an
excellent job of getting us lined
up properly and making plays all
over the field. His stat sheet is
as follows - 8 solo tackles, 5
assisted tackles, 1 Tackle for
Loss; 2 Interceptions; 1 Pass
Defended.
Paul Trammel made his first
appearance this year on defense
and had an outstanding game also.
It is great to have him back in
the middle; it will really help
our defensive unit. His stats
were as follows - 5 solo tackles;
6 assisted tackles; 3 Tackles for
Loss; 1 Sack."
