The Buccaneers hosted the
Hardin-Jefferson Hawks on
Friday, September 21, 2007, at
Buccaneer Stadium. What looked
like a game that would be a
offensive struggle for both
teams initially, turned into an
exciting display of turnovers,
on-side kicks, and explosive
offensive schemes and defensive
stands.

game in the Beaumont Enterprise

Chronicle

Coach Valastro - "The game
started out pretty sloppy, but the
Bucs settled down after the first
quarter. I was happy to see
Donte Raymond have such a good
game. He rushed for 225
yards, 3 tds, one 2-point
conversion, and had 3 receptions
for 45 yards and one td. He
had an amazing night. He
will be awarded the offensive
player of the week.
Several other offensive players
had standout performances,
including Tramain Thomas,
Vance McDonald, Anthony
Ortiz, Paul Trammell,
Carlos Trevino, Scott
Penny and the rest of the O
line.
Our defense played outstanding.
Coach Cauthern has those guys
getting better every week.
This off week will be used for
conditioning and prep time to get
ready for our distirct opener
against Deweyville."
Coach Cauthern - "Defensively
we were very pleased with the way
the kids played. Our focus
this week was to really fly to the
football and be sure tacklers.
We knew their running back was good
and if we missed tackles he could
take it the distance on any snap.
The kids did a great job of running
to the ball and gang tackling.
We also made a point to play four
great quarters of defense. The
previous two games we played great
defense in the first half and then
let people back into games in the
second half. We challenged the
kids at halftime to play the second
half like the score was 0-0 and we
needed to make plays defensively and
that is exactly what they did.
This was our most complete game as a
defensive unit so far this year.
We will use this to build on for
district. The entire defense
is being recognized as defensive
players of the game this week."
Coach East - "Started slow,
but great overall effort. I feel
confident as we prepare for
district."
Coach Andrews - "The kids
responded well after a slow start in
the first quarter. We were able to
take control during the second
quarter and never look back. 4-0 is
a great start to the season, but
it’s not how you start, it is how
you finish. Next Friday against
Deweyville is when every game starts
to count. Keep up the good work
Bucs!"
