The Buccaneers traveled to
Kountze on Friday, November 2, 2007,
to take on the Lions on their home
field. The Lions were determined
from the onset and proved that
determination by scoring first,
getting an onside kick, and hanging
on to win and upset the Bucs by one.
Kountze would score first on a
2-yard run with the PAT good to take
the lead with 10:14 left in the
first quarter. Just 5 minutes later,
EC would answer back with a 4-yard run
by Tramain Thomas and an
extra point by Carlos Trevino
tying the score at 7 all. East
Chambers would score next to take
the lead off of a 30-yard run by
Donte Raymond, but the PAT would
fail leaving the score EC 13 Kountze 7 at the half. With just 21
seconds left in the third quarter, Kountze would score and kick a
PAT to take a one-point lead. With an entire 4th quarter to play, EC
fans expected the usual but would leave in disbelief having lost
their first game of the season. The lion's defense would hold on a
crucial 4th down and inches to stop a potential scoring drive down
in lion territory. Final score EC 13 Kountze 14. The Bucs will host
the Hardin Hornets for the last district game.
Coach Valastro - "I
really wish there were words to
express how our team and coaches
felt after Friday's game. I offer no
excuses. Our team was simply not
able to overcome the loss of two of
our leaders, our captains, and our
best football players. I'm not sure
any team, at any level, would be
able to offset or overcome such a
change in the dynamics of their team
in such a short period of time.
Kountze has an extremely talented
team who has beaten or played with
everyone in our district. They did
what they needed to do to win the
ball game. Hats off to them.
Our team members fought their best
fight. Trey Lambert did a
really nice job running the offense
in the second half; his efforts were
very much appreciated. J.T.
Hallmark did a nice job of
blocking and catching the football.
Our offensive player of the game was
awarded to Carlos Trevino.
Carlos did a fine job blocking and
instructing the offensive line
during the game.
