ECHS
Powerlifting Team Qualifies
Several Athletes for Regionals |
 |
The East Chambers Powerlifting
Team has qualified several
athletes for regionals in both
the girls and boys divisions.
Girls can qualify for regionals
in a number of ways which
include: 1) be in the top 12 of
their respective weight class,
2) meet a qualifying total, or
3) be the top lifter for their
classification - 5A, 4A, etc.
Asia Coleman and Brenda Cardenas
were in the top 12 in their
weight class. Asia is # 2 and
Brenda is # 12. Lesley Valastro
is the top lifter in 2A in her
weight class. |
|
Boys can qualify for regionals
by being in the top 10 in their
weight class in the region which is the only way for boys to
qualify. Dylan Kramer is #2 in
his weight class (275); Lorenzo Netro is #3 in his weight class
(123); German Netro is #5 in his
weight class (123); Pat Colleps
is #6 in his weight class
(220);; Anthony Ortiz is #3 in
his weight class (165); Taylor
Reddell is #7 in his weight
class (165); and Jose Anaya is
#8 in his weight class (181).

According to Coach Cauthern, the
power lifting coach, "These
athletes work extremely hard and
put in serious amounts of time
to get stronger, and they
represent East Chambers with
class every time they compete in
a meet. Power lifting is not one
of those huge fan-based sports.
These kids compete against a bar
and the opportunity to raise
their total every week. Power
lifting consists of squat,
bench, and dead lift - each
athlete gets three attempts at
each lift and you take their top
lift from each and add them
together for what is called a
total. It is amazing to see
these kids cheer for each other
to "beat the bar" not
necessarily another competitor.
They are fun to coach."
The boys regional meet will be
Saturday, March 7th at Anahuac
High School.
The girls regional meet will be
Thursday, March 12th at Palacios
High School. |
