Junior High Football Season Underway

On Thursday, September 24, 2009, the Buccaneer junior high football teams traveled to Buna in their first district competition. The first game of the night was the seventh grade team who displayed great effort throughout the entire game. Quarterback Slade Collins opened the game with an impressive 20-yard run and never looked back. Offensive players of the game where QB Slade Collins, FB Tristan Martin, QB Tyler Crone and Lane Bridges. The Bucs dominated the clock in the third quarter with a drive time of 3:28 when Tristan Martin scored the first touchdown racking up a total of 20 yards for the quarter. The second TD of the night would come with QB Slade Collins. Receiver of the game would be Lane Bridges. Defensive players of the night were Harrison Sims, Tyler Crone, Derek Hudgins, Trevor Franzen, Lane Bridges as well as Slade Collins and Tristan Martin. The Bucs fell short with a score of Cougars 32 Bucs 12.                 

The second game of the night was the eighth grade team, who went into the game with a  2-0 record. In a defensive battle back and forth, the Bucs had several opportunities to be victorious, but could not capitalize. Outstanding players of the game would go to the entire defense led by Antonio Anaya, Jarrod Guillory, and Nicholas King. Bucs' defense would hold the Cougars until the fourth quarter when they scored on a 2nd and 16 (18-yard run for the score). Offensive players of the game were QB Jarrod Guillory, FB Nicholas King, FB Glenndale Roberts and TE Brandon Johnson who was the key receiver of the night. TE Brandon Johnson would have the only TD of the game with a catch and run pass of 50 yards from a scrambling QB Jarrod Guillory that was called back by an unfortunate penalty. The Bucs would have one more chance to tie the game but fell short at the end with the final score of Cougars 8 Bucs 0. Coach Leday commented, "I was very proud of both teams; they never gave up fighting and displayed great determination until the end."
